Roguelike horror-comedy Phantom Halls launches this Halloween

The indie horror-comedy game Phantom Halls leaves early access next month, and will introduce a new multiplayer mode.

As Summer draws to a close, Fall rapidly approaches – and with it, Halloween. It’s as good an opportunity as any to curl up with a horror title, which is why Incedium Games will bring Phantom Halls out of early access for the big day.

Phantom Halls is a horror-comedy roguelike inspired by B movies like the original Evil Dead. Each match sends a gang of papercraft teenagers in a procedurally-generated mansion filled with monsters. The twist in single-player is each character’s action is controlled by a different key, leading to awkwardly-amusing moments as you navigate the halls.

Speaking of Evil Dead, the game also includes a licensed Evil Dead 2 content pack where you can play as Ash Williams or fight his evil twin. Groovy.

With the full launch, Phantom Halls will introduce a full-fledged co-op mode where you can team up with other players. More recent updates include an RV Headquarters that can be upgraded between missions, and a Spoils system where you earn loot for each completed case.

“It’s been hugely rewarding to build this game around an ever-growing community of players in early access over the last 18 months but we couldn’t think of a better time to share our b-movie horror homage to a wider audience than on Halloween,” creative director Llexi Leon wrote in a statement. “It’s the perfect party game for the season! On launch day you’ll be able squad up to survive the night either in local or networked cooperative modes, and we’ll be unleashing the Pumpkin King and Dracula himself to join in the festive fun.”

Phantom Halls launches for PC on October 31, 2018. You can test out the early access edition now.
