"It’s not just about getting a skin that changes the entire appearance of your Javelin" - BioWare on Anthem's customisation

Anthem has skins, paints, cloth types, materials and emotes, all earnable in-game or purchasable for real money.

BioWare’s next game, Anthem, sure is a modern video game. Not only is it always online, but you’ll also have the opportunity to show off rare cosmetics and make your pals jealous.

At launch, there will be a range of ridiculous emotes, as well as a host of customisation options for each Javelin, Anthem's combat suits.

“The way the personalisation system works, it’s not just about getting a skin that changes the entire appearance of your Javelin, though you can do that,” game director Jonathan Warner tells me during gamescom.

“We also have a system that allows you to change the paint, change the material, the composition of your cloth - things like this. Even in the early game, when you haven’t unlocked all the awesome customisation items, you’ll still look really different from each other.”

Of course, this being a service game, your cosmetic options will keep expanding via post-launch support.

BioWare told us at gamescom that Anthem is getting a demo, and promised to reveal more at PAX West next week.

Anthem launches February 22 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
