Metro Exodus gamescom trailer shows off the open environments and nocturnal nightmare creatures

Metro Exodus gets a new trailer that shows the perils that lurk after dark.

The newest Metro Exodus trailer ventures into horror territory with spooky set pieces, nightmarish creatures, and a few crazies to boot.

Announced last year, we got our first look at the title during 2017's Game Awards. With day and night cycles, and more open environments, players can look forward to stumbling onto all sorts of ghastly horrors as the sun goes down, with the gamescom 2018 trailer showcasing a handful of them.

"Thousands of kilometres from the ruins of Moscow, Artyom and his companions discover what seems like paradise – a lush, green valley, teeming with life," reads the trailer's description.

"But if their years in the Metro have taught them one thing, it is this: The night brings terror. And here, terror has a new face…"

Night on the surface is potentially even more dangerous than the tunnels of the metro.

We got a look at some 4K gameplay earlier this year, at E3 2018, and it looked stunning.

Players can look forward to extensive gun modification this time around, and while bullets are no longer currency, you'll need to conserve ammo as you make your way through the terrifying surface world.

Metro Exodus is set to launch on February 22, 2019, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
