Windjammers 2 received a surprise announcement today within the Nintendo Switch’s Indie Highlights video.

Nintendo is undergoing a major push to bring indie games to the Switch, as noted by its latest Indie Highlights video. That said, few expected this was where Nintendo would unveil Windjammers 2, a sequel to the disc-throwing arcade classic.

Developer and publisher DotEmu quickly followed up with its own announcement on Twitter. The new sequel is expected to arrive in 2019.

The original Windjammers was a fast-paced version of Pong, replacing the simple graphics with sprite-based athletes. Players would choose between six characters with their own stats and special moves, and attempt to throw a disc into an opponents goal zone. While Windjammers didn’t exactly make waves, it has become something of a cult classic thanks to its vibrant visual style. It was ported to the PS4 and Vita last year.

After presenting several indie Switch ports, Nintendo presented a brief animated teaser for Windjammers 2. The original game will also get a Switch release on October 23, 2018.
