Speedrunner beats all 5 Fallout games in 90 minutes

If you have a spare hour and a half, you can watch a speedrunner demolish the entire core Fallout series, plus New Vegas.

If you’ve loved the Fallout series since the 1997 original, the odds are pretty high that you’ve spend hundreds of hours exploring its post-apocalypse setting. Now ask yourself how long it might take to beat the five most popular games of the franchise.

The answer from one speedrunner: less than an hour and a half. In fact, I’m pretty sure he beat Fallout 1 in the time I spent in the character creation screen.

This world-record run comes from the YouTuber tomatoanus (thanks PC Gamer), who took advantage of glitches and exploits to reach the end credits as quickly as possible. That means he had to ignore all story quests and madly dash towards key locations and enemies as quickly as possible.

Fallout 1 and 2 took tomatoanus roughly 18 minutes to complete, with the only substantial barrier being a three-minute boss fight in the sequel. (Which is still impressive, because Frank is a beast of a boss fight.) Fallout 3 takes another 15 minutes, while New Vegas was completed in about 14. The remaining time goes towards Fallout 4, which is far more impressive than it sounds after blazing through the previous games.

Now the question is whether other speedrunners will be able to shave time off this record without skipping a game. Or maybe someone should add the Brotherhood of Steel spin-offs into the mix?
