Minecraft creator's Scrolls game released for free with a new name

Scrolls, the online multiplayer card game from Mojang, is now a free game with a new moniker.

Mojang has made Scrolls available to all for no charge under the title Caller's Bane.

After pulling the game offline earlier this year, it's back and everyone gets a fresh start. Due to its deactivation, collections of scrolls or decks accumulated by players will not carry over.

If your server owner is a good egg though, they can decide to give everyone a full collection or change how gold and card distribution works.

Because Caller's Bane has been handed over to the public, players will no longer use their Mojang account system on community servers. This means players will no longer see an in-game friends list.

While private servers are an option, kbasten, who runs scrollsguide.com, is hosting a community server and it's already up and running. Once downloaded, the game client is prepared to connect to it straight away.

Those who wish to host their own server will find instructions on how to set things up through the package file.

Interested parties can grab Caller's Bane for Windows or Mac through the download page.
