Forza Horizon 4’s changing seasons bring big graphical upgrades over its predecessors – report

Forza Horizon 4 may not be a complete revolution in terms of its technical makeup, but a new report reveals just some of the new upgrades it offers over Forza Horizon 3.

Digital Foundry posted some impressions of Forza Horizon 4, based on hands-on time with the E3 2018 demo.

Although the 60fps option for Xbox One X, announced at Microsoft’s E3 showcase, was not available to demo, what was on show is enough cause for celebration. 4K, 30fps it is on Xbox One X, but there’s a lot more to it than that.

The new seasons feature, which dynamically changes the entire world to reflect the changes each of the four seasons brings, is not only loaded with gameplay possibilities, it also shows dramatic changes to the engine.

The site noted improved materials, giving objects and surfaces a more realistic look. Indirect lighting seen on snow particles, and their reflections was another high point.

In fact, every season is impressive in its own way. Such as realistic puddles and mud in the spring.

The input lag was seemingly been improved in the 30fps mode. Input was never a problem for Forza Horizon, but there’s no denying 30fps is more clunky than 60fps or higher, so it’s great to see work being done on that front.

As you’d expect, though, the 30fps target doesn’t budge, despite the drastic changes to the game world brought by the different seasons.

Forza Horizon 4 is out October 2 on PC, and Xbox One.
