PlayStation’s “deep dive” at E3 was an attempt to avoid a “shallow” press conference, going from one game to another.

Sony’s approach to E3 this year was somewhat pared down compared to the usual fare. The company has said that this approach was to avoid the “shallow” approach, and to let “the games speak for themselves.”

The PlayStation E3 2018 briefing focused on four big games, something outlined in advance of the conference, with a Sony saying that it was planning a “deep dive” into Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us Part 2.

“At PlayStation, we do like to do things different, push some boundaries here and there,” Sony Worldwide Studios’ Michael Denny told

“This time, we did want it to have a focus on the big four exclusive titles and go in-depth more on those games

“In the past, I think these press conferences can be a bit shallow, just going from one [game] to another then another…It was a different approach. It was about letting the games speak for themselves.”
