E3 2018: Gears Tactics is an XCOM-style offshoot, coming to PC

Gears of War 5, and Gears Pop weren't the only Gears games announced at Microsoft's E3 2018 conference.

At the show, The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson announced Gears Tactics. Gears Tactics was described as a PC-only take on the turn-based genre.

From the brief few seconds of footage we got to see during the show, the game looks to be adapting the Gears of War universe into an XCOM-style formula. Gears Tactics will also feature boss fights, and we even got a glimpse of a Brumak in the trailer.

Fergusson noted that Gears Tactics will feature more action-focused gameplay, with a customisable squad and equipment. Gears Tactics takes place 12 years before the events of the first game, with COGS facing off against the early Locust invasion.

That's about the extent of the information shared at the show, and Microsoft has sadly not revealed any other details post show. More information was promised soon, however, but we do not yet have a release date.
