Microsoft to announce Halo Infinity at E3 – rumour

Microsoft is reportedly showing a new Halo game at E3.

The new game, according to Thurrott.com executive editor Brad Sams, may be called Halo Infinity. Thurrott is a Windows site with a decent track record when it comes to Microsoft-related scoops.

Although Sams doesn’t share any other details, it’s safe to assume Microsoft is probably preparing a Halo announcement of some kind at its E3 show. Halo 5 came out nearly three years ago, so it’s about time 343 came on stage to show/talk about something.

The name could really mean anything, if the game is indeed going to be called Halo: Infinity.

For one thing, the Infinity is the ship UNSC built using Forerunner technology. The ship heavily features in the events of Halo 4 and Halo 5. The end of the new Halo trilogy could be centred around that ship somehow, which was last seen losing power after Cortana took control of all AIs at the end of Halo 5.

Infinity also may not be intended to refer to anything, and the name could be an indication that we’re looking at Halo as a service, an evolving game similar to Destiny, or even one that receives content updates regularly while still being made up of Halo’s distinct multiplayer modes.

Microsoft’s E3 press conference takes place this Sunday at 4pm ET / 9pm BST.
