Battlefield 5 reveal appears to be on May 23 according to this latest Battlefield 1 easter egg

It looks like the next Battlefield game will be revealed in just under two weeks.

A newly-unearthed Easter Egg in Battlefield 1 appears to point to the reveal date for the next entry in the Battlefield series: May 23, just two weeks’ time.

Players have been working on an easter egg titled “The Room” for a few days now – but last night, players finally cracked it. Working out the easter egg rewards players with a special dogtag that has morse code reading ‘SECRETS REVEALED’ written on it – but the actual real secret was hidden within the room you had to access in order to get that dogtag, as shown in Westie’s video below.

Completing all the rather complicated steps in the easter egg will unlock the dog tag and cause some music to play, but there’s also a more subtle change of the sound in the easter egg room: dripping water. Fans with sharp ears quickly worked out that the dripping sound coming from the pipes was rather rhythmic – and when analysed, it was morse code. It translates into a web URL: www.ea.com/neverbethesame.

The website is pretty simple – it features the date of May 23, 2018 and a single hashtag – #Battlefield. A dig into the javascript of that same page reveals a countdown timer that’s set to end on May 28th, too. Something is coming in just a few weeks, anyway.

This fits with the pattern of EA revealing Battlefield games, with 2016’s Battlefield 1 being revealed in early May in the run-up to E3 via a pretty awesome trailer. The game then got a more full reveal of its content at E3 2017 – it seems likely that this will run in the same way.

Previous rumors and leaks have suggested that the game will be a World War 2 game called Battlefield V – both for Battlefield 5 and V for Victory. It’s also been suggested that it will have a battle royale mode, because it’s 2018 and of course it will.

EA hasn’t exactly been shy about a Battlefield 5 being in production, with the company commenting on it as recently as two days ago in an earnings call where the company confirmed the game will have a single-player campaign, multiple maps and modes and “unique battles”, whatever that means.

So – May 23 it is. We’ll have all the news then – but what are you looking for out of the next Battlefield game? Let us know in the comments below.
