Fortnite Battle Royale is coming to mobile with PS4 cross-platform play

Fortnite Battle Royale has been announced for mobile devices.

Epic Games is bringing Fortnite Battle Royale to mobile and tablets.

According to the announcement, Fortnite on mobile is the "same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4," and other platforms.

It will feature the same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates. The best part? Cross-platform play and cross-progression support with PlayStation 4.

This was achieved through Epic's partnership with Sony, which means progression in the game can be saved across PS4, PC, Mac, iOS and "eventually" Android.

Players across devices will also be able to player with others thanks to cross-play.

Unfortunately, this doesn't include Xbox One and PS4 as the company hasn't seemed too keen on the idea as we found out back at E3 2017.

Not that it wouldn't work, mind you, because for a few hours back in September 2017, Fortnite players on PS4 and Xbox One were able to play together as one big happy console family.

Unfortunately, turns out it was a configuration issue on Epic's part and the ability for PS4 and Xbox One players to jump into Fortnite together was turned off.

It was fun while it lasted.

Anyway, starting on Monday, March 12, those interested in Fortnite Battle Royale on mobile can sign-up for the Invite Event on iOS.

Email invites will start rolling out soon after with a link to download the game from the App Store. More players will be added regularly over the coming months leading up to release.

Players who receive invites from Epic will also get friend invite codes to share with others.

To participate, iOS 11 on at least an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad 2017 devices is required.

Support for Android will be coming in the next few months. No word on Xbox One just yet, but that doesn't mean it's not coming.
