Watch 15 minutes of the glorious Shadow of the Colossus PS4 remake

More than a decade after its original release on PS2, Shadow of the Colossus is back. Rather than a HD remaster, this new PS4 version is a complete remake by Bluepoint Games - the studio behind Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Gravity Rush: Remastered - and it’s safe to say it looks pretty spectacular.

The video from Arekkz below shows the first 15 minutes of gameplay, including the whole fight with the first Colossus as well as some of the remade environments from the game.

It’s easy to see where a lot of graphical improvements have been made. The lighting effects look incredible as Wander moves between light and dark areas, and the way the Colossus’ mossy fur moves in the wind is truly wow-inducing.

Sony previously released a comparison video of the PS2, PS3 and PS4 versions of the Shadow side-by-side, as well as details on the differences between the remake’s “Cinematic” and “performance” video modes. The former aims for 30 frames-per-second and cranks up rendering, while the latter aims for a smoother 60 frames-per-second.

The Shadow of the Colossus remake not only features revamped visuals though, but controls as well. Bluepoint have said in development diaries that they want to modernise the classic game, while staying true to what made it special, by using “the original as a template and adding on top of it”.

Shadow of the Colossus for PS4 will be released on February 6, 2018.
