Xbox outsold PS4 in December but Switch sold the most units overall

The December 2017 NPD report hasn't been released yet, but we already have an idea of how platform sales will turn out.

According to unreleased NPD data for December 2017, Switch was the best-selling system in the US for the month.

The second best-selling console was Xbox One, followed by PlayStation 4.

Information on the upcoming report was provided by Xbox Games Marketing head Aaron Greenberg on Twitter (thanks, GI.biz).

According to Greenberg, Microsoft saw the "highest Xbox One December console share ever," during the period. He went on to say in a subsequent tweet that according to NPD data, Xbox One outsold PlayStation 4 in December while "Nintendo also had a great month as Switch had most overall units."

In November, PS4 was the best-selling platform and Sony said the console sold more units in November 2017 than in any other month during the console’s lifetime.

During that period, Xbox One X brought in more dollars in hardware spend, and it was also Xbox One’s best November for unit sales ever. Gotta love Black Friday.

All systems are doing well, which is great news for gamers everywhere and the companies involved.

We expect the full NPD report for December 2017 to arrive late next week, along with some year-end figures which could prove interesting.
