Pokemon Crystal will release for 3DS in January through the eshop

Game Boy Color title Pokemon Crystal is heading to the Nintendo eshop in January.

Pokemon Crystal, and expanded version of Pokemon Gold and Silver, will be made available for both 3DS and 2DS systems.

The Game Boy Color game was originally release in Japan in 2000 before heading west in 2001. It was the first in the series to introduce animations during Pokemon battles and allow players to choose between a male or female character.

Link Trades and Link Battles will be supported alongside the Time Capsule feature which allows players to trade and battle Pokemon from Pokemon Blue, Red, and Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition.

At launch, it will also be compatible with Pokemon Bank and provide players with the opportunity to encounter Mythical Pokemon Celebi in an event after completing the game.

In the original Pokemon Crystal, Celebi could only be obtained by using a special accessory.

Pokemon Crystal will arrive on the eshop January 26 and will run you $9.99 or the regional equivalent.
