Dragon Ball FighterZ is adding three fighters from Dragon Ball Super and the Dragon Balls themselves

The Dragon Ball FighterZ roster keeps expanding, but this latest character announcement is particularly intriguing.

There have been several new characters announced for Dragon Ball FighterZ over the last month, but few of them have been super exciting additions - adult Gohan and Kid Buu, for instance, are basically iterations on characters that are already confirmed, and while Gotenks and 18 are a bit more interesting, they're also not unexpected.

The latest character reveal, which comes courtesy of Japanese magazine V-Jump (as translated by Gematsu), shows off three characters from Dragon Ball Super, the ongoing Dragon Ball follow-up that continues on from where Dragon Ball Z left off. The magazine revealed that Beerus (the God of Destruction), Goku Black (an alternate universe God of Destruction who - actually, you know what, it's too convoluted to type out) and Hit (the strongest warrior of Universe 6) are joining the fight.

This means that the character pool isn't restricted to Dragon Ball Z, or the characters of the in-series universe (if you haven't watched Dragon Ball Super, there's a whole mess of different universes and gods now, they're in the middle of a huge interdimensional fighting tournament, it's pretty wild). Seeing Hit in-game means that we wouldn't be surprised if the Universe 6 Saiyans - Cabba, Caulifla and Kale - pop up as well.

Some other details are revealed in this magazine piece too, the most intriguing of which is the existence of a system that grants a player a wish mid-fight. You can summon Shenron with the balls by fulfilling "certain conditions", and then make one of four wishes: full HP recovery, a recovered teammate, an extra 'sparking!' icon, or constant HP regeneration. It sounds like an interesting mechanic.

Dragon Ball FighterZ releases on January 26 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
