Skyrim on Switch - you don't need amiibo to unlock the Zelda costumes

Skyrim on Switch has support for Zelda amiibo figures, but you can still unlock the gear they'll grant you just by playing.

We found out back in June that Skyrim was getting amiibo support, and that scanning figures from the Zelda series would potentially net you rewards specific to that franchise.

Tapping a Link amiibo can net you some of Link's gear, while other amiibo from Zelda will grant extra goodies (although we'll have to wait for the game's embargo to end to know exactly how useful this feature is).

This has led to some Skyrim/Zelda fans worrying that they'll need to go out and buy an amiibo to access this costume change, but this does not appear to be the case.

According to Finder, a representative from Bethesda confirmed for them that you won't need an amiibo to get your hands on the tunic, Master Sword, or Hyrule Shield.

If you scan a Link amiibo (which you can do once a day), you have a 20% chance of nabbing some Zelda loot. You'll get something for your troubles, regardless, so it sounds like amiibo scans work similarly to how they do in Breath of the Wild.

However, you can also get the Zelda gear by going on a bit of a journey. Climb to the very top of The Throat of the World - the highest mountain in Skyrim - and you'll find the gear up there too. That's a fair trek, of course, but it's worth it for the Master Sword, right?

Skryim releases for Switch on November 17.
