The Overwatch League expands into Houston and Philadelphia

The growth of Overwatch's esports scene continues, with Blizzard making deals with two more buyers within the US.

The Overwatch League expanded into London and Los Angeles last month, but has expanded further since then. According to ESPN, Blizzard has signed a deal with Comcast Spectacor in Philadelphia, while OpTic Gaming has secured the rights to a team in Houston.

The article reports that Blizzard has recruited 13 of the 14 teams they intend to have competing, and that these spots went for $20 million each. They are reportedly trying to organise a team in Chicago, courting Wesley Edens, co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Blizzard's rules of participation in the Overwatch league state that each team must create a new 'brand' to compete under. Although Overwatch has faced some setbacks in the competitive scene, including teams dropping out of competition, it's clear that they still intend to make a big play with the Overwatch League.

The Overwatch League is expected to begin full operations, and a proper competitive season, next year.
