2017 is well on its way to be Steam’s biggest year ever, in terms of the number of new games released on the storefront.
About a month ago, it was revealed that over 1,000 games were released on Steam since Steam Direct was introduced in June.
According to new information by analyst Daniel Ahmad, this number has now climbed to over 1,300. As you can see in the chart below, 2017 has already broken 2015’s record and is on its way to reach 2016’s record, which itself was much bigger than any other year prior.
What’s more, the number of games released this year is close to exceeding the total number of games released between 2006 and 2014. The figures are no doubt staggering, and they will continue to make the task of landing on the weekly top sellers list even harder for indie games.
To help make browsing the store easier for customers, Valve has been taking steps to only surface games that are relevant to a player’s interests. In the company’s ideal world, you won’t need to worry about the number of games on Steam if you only see games from the genres you care about.
