Have some definitive Age of Empires gameplay footage

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is putting some fresh life into a twenty year-old game.

Age of Empires is easily among the all-time strategy gaming classics, beloved by its fans and setting the bar for the rest of the genre. So it's pretty exciting that a Definitive Edition will be coming out in two months, with sequels to follow. There's only one question: Does the classic gameplay still hold up twenty years later? Thankfully, Gamescom provided a great opportunity to judge that for ourselves.

The footage above was first captured by IGN, who were provided with a Gamescom demo. What we end up with is an incredibly familiar experience as the player marshals a large force to take down enemy units. While the textures and sprites have been updated, everything from the UI to unit movements should immediately take fans back to their first experience with the game.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition launches for PC on October 19, 2017. The closed beta for the game began earlier this week.
