Divinity Original Sin 2 will have more ways to help or hinder your co-op buddies

Divinity Original Sin 2 is shaping up to be a co-op RPG fan’s dream.

I’m a sucker for co-op games. Give me a shooter with an optional split-screen campaign, and I’ll hurriedly message my friends with requests to play the entire thing with me. Yet few co-op games exceeded co-op expectations quite like Divinity Original Sin, which let you experience all the rich depth of RPGs with a trusty companion by your side. For Divinity Original Sin 2, Larian Studios will go even futher – especially if your companion isn’t that trusty.

In a new trailer, Larian Studios gives players an example of how Divinity’s 4-player co-op system works. When the party arrives at a city, one player decides to rob a shopkeeper and give the weapon to his friend. Unfortunately, the offending player fails to share this detail. So when the city guard stops the co-op buddy for a random search, guess who is blamed for the crime? This ultimately leads to a side story where the rest of the party attempts to break their friend out of prison, get revenge on the player thief, and eventually set aside their differences to take out a greater danger.

These kind of encounters give single-player RPGs immense depth, but are typically much harder to pull off in multiplayer. Divinity Original Sin is one of the rare exceptions, and the sequel is set to continue this tradition.
