Destiny 2 is going to make more of an effort to get you involved with its story – and characters. Let’s start with Cayde-6.
Destiny 2 takes a slightly different approach to the original game and its expansions, in that when the story begins, the Vanguard are scattered around the solar system by the arrival of the Red Legion.
Cayde-6, voiced by Nathan Fillion, is the Hunter Vanguard – and already a fan favourite among those who stayed with Destiny through The Taken King. You’ll find him on Nessus in the course of your adventures in Destiny 2.
A classic wise-cracking rogue with an affinity for hand cannons, the veteran Exo prefers the Gunslinger subclass – and you’ll see him use his Golden Gun super in the intro trailer below. It’s pretty cool that the mechanics and lore are connected in ways you can actually see in Destiny 2.
The Cayde-6 intro video follows on from the (early!) story-focused Destiny 2 release trailer, and we’re expecting to see similar efforts for Ikora and Zavala, the Warlock and Titan Vanguard respectively, in the near future – if not videos for other major characters.
Destiny 2 releases in early September for PS4 and Xbox One and is coming to PC in October. From what Activision and Bungie have said so far, one of the aims with the sequel was to address the eternal complaints about Destiny’s story.
Putting characters including a clear villain in front of the players and throwing more cutscenes and in-engine events in there, as we saw in the Destiny 2 beta, should help in that regard.
