Uncharted: The Lost Legacy does a lot of new things but still looks very familiar

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a good-looking game, so fill your peepers with it as Naughty Dog talks over the whys and hows of the project.

A proper standalone game, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy represents something of a fresh start for the series now that Nathan Drake's story is well and truly wrapped up.

In the developer diary below, you can get a good look at slabs of cinematic and gameplay footage as well as hear a bit about what Uncharted: The Lost Legacy does differently - and why.

During the video, Naughty Dog staffers said that while Uncharted: The Lost Legacy isn't a true open world, players have greater freedom to explore where they will rather than just following linear missions in sequence. The developer's goal was to marry this freedom with the unfolding of the story, in the cinematic style we expect of the Uncharted series.

Chloe was chosen as the lead character of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy because she's a fan favourite, and because her personal background provides some good story opportunities - she's exploring her roots in India, and chasing an artefact her father had an interest in. Meanwhile, Nadine Ross is the perfect foil, as her methodical approach and military background clash with Chloe's more impulsive and passionate stylings. Also, they're both super badasses, but that bit's my assessment.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy releases later this month, exclusively for PS4. It's an interesting project both in terms of Naughty Dog trying its hand at smaller game and pushing the boundaries of what it's done with environments, and as a sort of testbed for where Uncharted might go if the team wants a clean break from Nathan Drake.

Personally I'm pretty convinced Uncharted can be just as compelling with the wonderful Claudia Black front and centre as it was with Nolan North in the starring role. What do you think?
