Dark Souls gets Gun Game mod and it does everything you expect, sans guns

You'll never run out of reasons to start a new playthrough of Dark Souls, especially since mods continue to make things fresh.

After the amazing/terrible Dark Souls Epic Sax Guy mod made the rounds last week, it's now time to take a look at more a serious attempt at introducing new elements to the beloved game.

Reddit user Bqm11 (via PCGamer) managed to bring the concepts of Counter-Strike and Call of Duty's Gun Game into Dark Souls. Simply called 'DaS_GG', the mod brings the progression of the classic Gun Game mode to the game.

The mod basically allows you to level up only when you land successful hits on enemies. Dying or getting hit reverts you back a level. What's more, the creator introduced an element of RNG into it that rewards you with better weapons and armour the higher you go, with some weapons only dropping from certain bosses.

"For example, you start at level 1 wielding a very low tier weapon and no armour then after smacking an enemy 3 times you level up granting you a slightly better random weapon and you can continue to level up until you get hit or reach the cap," the creator explains.

It goes without saying that this does not include firearms, only the weapons already available in the game. There's an overlay, as you can see, that'll keep track of the how many heals you have, your level, and damage.

You can download the mod from here. This is also where you should go to read the installation instructions and a short FAQ about things like getting cursed, and other aspects such as how the mod works.
