Dynasty Warriors 9 is coming to the PS4, and bringing huge battles across an open world with it.
The trailer shows off the huge action the series is known for as the player juggles and explodes their enemies as though they were nothing. This trailer follows up on the initial announcement back in December, and gives us our first proper look at how the game runs on PS4 (it’s pretty comfortably the best looking DW ever, judging by this footage).
You’ll be exploring third century China in this game, and it’ll reportedly be massive. Dynasty Warriors usually presents a series of large levels, but having one huge persistent open world should represent a fairly major structural change.
The game’s official website has gone live, offering a few details. Apparently DW9 will introduce something called the “Interactive Action” system, which will allow you to use your surroundings in ways that have not been possible in previous musou games – you can climb mountains, use grappling hooks, and use objects you find during battle.
A new gameplay wrinkle is being introduced too with the ‘State Combo System’. This will let you switch between three different attack styles: Trigger, Flow, and Finish attacks. Stringing these different styles together with combos will be important for taking out large groups of enemies.
No release date has been given – all we know is that the game is being made for the PS4.
