You won't hear anything about the next major Halo game for "quite some time"

It looks like it'll be a while before we start hearing about the next big Halo game.

The second anniversary for Halo 5: Guardians is coming up in a few months, and we still haven't heard a word about what's next for the series.

Microsoft is giving developer 343 its time, it seems, as we typically would have gotten at least a teaser for the next game by now. But, E3 came and went, and Halo was nowhere to be seen, unless you count the new expansion for Halo Wars 2.

Fans are rightfully anxious to hear more, and 343 Industries addressed these concerns in a new blog post.

"While there’s little to nothing that can be said on that front, it’s been made clear that we won’t be talking about Halo’s next major title for quite some time," wrote the studio's Jeff Easterling.

"And no, that doesn’t mean Gamescom. Or PAX. Trust us, when we’re ready to begin pulling back that proverbial curtain, you’ll know. It won’t be soon," he added.

If we assume Halo 6 - or whatever it ends up being called, is going to release later next year, it's easy to imagine a tease of some kind would drop before this year is over. Halo 5 had a nice long run-up to its release, with a beta taking place about a year before the game came out.
