Dragon Ball FighterZ looks like the Dragon Ball game we've always wanted in these gameplay videos

For Dragon Ball fans, Dragon Ball FighterZ might be one of the highlights of E3.

The game, announced at the opening of E3, comes from BlazBlue developers Arc Systems, and gives Dragon Ball fans what they've been asking for - a no nonsense, 2D, beautifully animated fighting game with a strong focus on the fighting itself. The demo only shows six characters - Goku, young Gohan and Vegeta fighting against Freiza/Freeza, Cell and Boo/Buu on Namek.

The session released earlier is very similar, but the battle pans out slightly differently. FighterZ looks like it'll be closer to the Budokai games than Xenoverse, but with the speed, animation quality and strategic depth we'd expect from Arc Systems. The last 2D Dragon Ball fighting game - Extreme Butoden on the 3DS - wasn't anything special, but this is looking much better.

It also looks a lot like the anime, only with better animation than most episodes had, honestly.

Dragon Ball FighterZ releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC early next year.
