Meet Hero Mission, a blatant Chinese Overwatch knockoff

Hero Mission is a game that barely straddles the line between inspiration and plagiarism.

A game as popular as Overwatch is bound to inspire the industry in different ways. Some take that inspiration literally, creating characters that fill similar roles established by Overwatch, and in some cases, copying their designs.

Hero Mission (or Heroic Mission) is today's Overwatch knockoff. The China-only game shares a lot of similarities with Overwatch, with some of its heroes resembling Winston, McCree, Soldier: 76, and others.

There are some variations in their designs of course, such as McCree being female in this version, Winston's doppelganger being a Panda and so on. In the video above from YouTuber Alpharad, he goes over each of the heroes and compares them to the originals. Some of these are just blatant ripoffs, like Widowmaker's replacement mimicking her pose and everything.

Even some of the maps shown on the website are copied and pasted from Overwatch. It's really something.

The game doesn't look like anything special, and you can see some gameplay for yourself through here, but it's always amusing to see how far a desperate developer will go to bring attention to their game. Some do this in marketing to try and grab the attention of fans of similar games, while others are happy to make a straight up clone of what they're competing with.
