Cross your fingers this tease really does mean kooky Dreamcast fav Seaman is in for a sequel
Seaman is life.
Seaman creator Yoot Saito has begun teasing a new project, and initial hints give us hope that the quirky Dreamcast title may be in for a follow up at last.
Posting on Twitter, Saito invited viewers to guess at the subject of a new project his team has begun work on. The staff are shown wearing shirts with an image of Seaman on it, as seen on the (under construction) Seaman website.
This isn't the first time we've had hints at a Seaman successor. Saito has hinted for years he'd like to return to the project, Nikkei believed there was a 3DS sequel in the works, and Nintendo once made a trademark that was either for Seaman or the result of the legal team hitting the sherry a bit too hard.
More recently, Devolver CEO Ford Parker wants to fund a Seaman sequel. A reminder that Devolver is hosting its own E3 2017 conference seems pertinent.
Seaman, for those who came in late, was a 1999 Dreamcast life sim narrated by Leonard Nimoy. Players took care of an irascible human-faced fish voiced by Jeff Kramer (Francis "York" Morgan in Deadly Premonition), hopefully nurturing it through six life stages from egg to mature amphibious form, when it could breed.
Daily care was required to keep Seaman alive, although this mostly involved talking to it. Seaman's conversation was, uh, interesting; in general, he didn't think much of his human carers.
A Seaman sequel was released for PS2 in 2007 but didn't make it outside Japan. Let's hope the combined forces of Saito and Devolver can bring about a happier result this time.
