Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will have dedicated servers, deluxe edition content can be unlocked by playing, more

A few more details about Star Wars: Battlefront 2 have been confirmed by DICE.

As is typically the case with DICE-developed games, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 fans have not stopped asking DICE staff all manner of questions ever since the official reveal.

It’s thanks to them we learned about the updated mechanics, expanded customisation and a lot more than what the official reveal provided. Today, we get to add a few extra bits of information to the roster.

Design director Dennis Brannvall confirmed on Twitter (via Gamespot) that the game will indeed have dedicated servers, the same way every DICE game has had up to this point. This is hardly surprising, but because of how very few publishers invest in dedicated servers, fans are always worried DICE games will be next to move away from the tech.

One aspect from the first game that won’t be returning is Star Cards. These ability cards were unlocked as you levelled up, and offered a wide range of items from grenades to jetpacks and single-use power-ups. Brannvall said that the new class system won’t quite offer the same level of freedom, but each class can still be drastically customised.

Reloading weapons in the original Battlefront was entirely based on cooldowns and overheating mechanics, but Battlefront 2 will expand that to also include some traditional reloading, according to Brannvall, though he didn’t elaborate further.

Finally, game designer Christian Johannesen confirmed that the content included in the deluxe edition, will not be exclusive to it, and can actually be unlocked in game by playing.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is out November 17 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
