Zelda: Breath of the Wild has the most perfect review scores in Metacritic's history

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has critically out-performed some of the best games of all time.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has attracted almost universal acclaim, so it should come as no surprise to learn it's taken another critical record.

Although it's not the highest-rated game on Metacritic, lining up behind Ocarina of Time, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and GTA 4, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild now has the largest number of perfect review scores of any game tracked by the site.

Redditor koolcandy noticed this development, with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's 43 perfect review scores overtaking previous record holders Super Mario Galaxy 2 and The Last of Us, each of which has 42 perfect scores.

This is an arguably meaningless metric as the number of outlets reviewing a title fluctuates from release to release, but still: it's another feather in Nintendo's cap. The company's headwear is already bristling with plumage, actually, since as previously mentioned The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the best-reviewed games of all time.

All this should come as no shock. Early The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild reviews threw up perfect scores, and when the embargo lifted a clear consensus emerged. Alex's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild review was full of praise, if you want an official VG247 perspective.

It's nice to see the extreme patience of Zelda fans rewarded with such a good end result - and of course, it's really paid off for Nintendo. The RPG is the gem in its latest launch lineup, and the Switch has sold really well out of the gate in all three primary regions.

Although it can't draw on the install base available to multi-platform titles or exclusives on more established platforms, we fully expect to keep hearing about further The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sales and critical records. It's been a long time since we've seen such enthusiasm.
