As previously reported, in Blitz, Halo Wars 2 players will pick a leader, build a 12 card deck and start battling with other players.

The cards are earned while playing through the game's campaign and through daily and weekly challenges. Each leader can have up to three decks with each card representing a unit. These can be sent onto the battlefield in real-time during a match.

The Blitz beta will take place on Proving Grounds map and will offer 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 gameplay via matchmaking. All Faction Leaders and Blitz cards that will be available in the full game at launch will be included in the beta.

None of the cards or progress earned within the beta will carry over, everyone who participates in the Blitz beta will be awarded up to two free in-game Blitz card packs in the final retail version. Participants will also earn one card pack just for logging into beta and another one once the first match is completed.

Those interested in Halo Wars 2 will be able to find out more when the new card-based mode's open beta launches on Windows 10 PC and Xbox One January 20-30.

Halo Wars 2 will be released on February 21.
