Wild Arms and Arc the Lad reboots announced by PlayStation Japan's mobile division
Sony's mobile gaming division is picking up some of PlayStation's long-neglected favourites.
Hey, remember when Sony launched a mobile gaming publishing division called ForwardWorks to create games based on "popular PlayStation series"?
Making good on rumours, PlayStation Japanese has unveiled a stack of these projects in the tail end of the year. Gematsu has collated all the information, but unfortunately not much of it is going to be relevant to many of us; it's unlikely these games will come west.
Still, there are a few interesting snippets for fans of Japanese gaming. First up, Sony has announced mobile reboots of both Arc the Lad and Wild Arms, two RPG franchises that haven't had enough love.
A Hot Shots Golf game is in the works, as is a new puzzle game from the No Heroes Allowed! (or What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord?) series.
Third-party publishers are also on board. Nippon Ichi has signed up for games based on Disgaea and Yomawari, and Square Enix has agreed to a project which is secret for now.
Finally, Sony's got some card reader thing called Project Field combining your compulsive need to collect real world cards with your compulsive need to play online smartphone games, which will probably make a stack of money - especially as the first game is based on Yo-Kai Watch.
Again, we probably won't see any of these in the west; the smartphone gaming market is really different in Japan and Asia when compared to the US and Europe.
