Did you see Skyrim in that trailer? Holy s**t.

We've been waiting for this reveal for quite some time; the NX was first confirmed in March 2015, two years before Nintendo said the NX would see a March 2017 release.

Switch which was reveled as a portable console with detachable controllers, after various rumors stating such first surfaced last year.

Nintendo Switch allows users to play their single and multiplayer games at home and then take them on the go to continue playing "wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose."

"The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles," said Nintendo in the official announcement."

"At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you.

As you noticed in the video, the system's detachable Joy-Con controllers will use cartridges similar to Nintendo 3DS. This backs up the NX patents which popped up last year and more rumors of game cards and the lack of an optical drive which surfaced back in May.

"The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment."

Users can remove the detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be "employed by numerous people."

Each can be clicked back into place or put into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, which the company said mirrors a traditional controller. There is also the option to use the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Others can also bring their own Nintendo Switch systems together for local multiplayer.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Nintendo of America president and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Here's just some of the publishers and developers which have announced official support for Nintendo Switch:

  • 505 Games
  • Activision
  • Atlus
  • Bethesda
  • Codemasters
  • Electronic Arts
  • Epic Games
  • Konami
  • Square Enix
  • Take-Two
  • Ubisoft

Ubisoft confirmed it will bring Just Dance 2017 to the console, and feels that "Nintendo will again redefine the way we play games" with Switch.

"The Switch is accessible at its core and also seizes on the growing trend of sharing more experiences and playing anywhere at anytime," said the company in a statement.

"Ubisoft and Nintendo enjoy a long-standing partnership and we are currently developing a number of games for the console, including Just Dance 2017. We look forward to sharing more at a later date."

Along with Skyrim, the trailer showed glimpses of what looks like a new Mario game, Mario Kart 9 (or an updated Mario Kart 8), NBA 2K17 and Splatoon. Whether the latter is the current Splatoon game or a new entry in the franchise is not known presently, but the game clip did show the ability for players to customize hairstyles and outfits.

There was also a glimpse of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was given a massive trailer drop earlier today.

"Today’s video incorporated short glimpses of representative gameplay to demonstrate the liberating nature of the Nintendo Switch home gaming system," said the firm.

"Full game demonstrations, the list of launch window titles, as well as launch date, price, product configuration and related specifics, will be shown and announced prior to the March launch."

In other words, price point, a firm release date, and specs will be announced later on.

That said, according to Nvidia, Nintendo Switch is powered by a custom Tegra processor, with a GPU based on the same architecture as its top-performing GeForce cards. So, we know that much at least.
