Tyranny, Obsidian’s PC RPG about what happens after the bad guys win, has a release date

Tyranny is kind of like being in a NPC in a fantasy RPG, but the player dies at the final boss and didn’t make a back up save.

Tyranny is the newest narrative-driven RPG from the studio that brought us Neverwinter Nights 2, Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas and more recently Pillars of Eternity.

Since going back to its 2D RPGs Obsidian has won plenty of acclaim, but Tyranny represents something a bit different. For all its twists and turns Pillars of Eternity kicked off in a fairly familiar fantasy setup, but Tyranny plonks you down in the aftermath of the victory of an evil empire. What you do and how you shape the world is up to you.

This intriguing prospect launches November 10 on Linux, Mac and PC, publisher Paradox announced today with the release of the new trailer above.

Pre-orders have opened, and there are multiple editions available. The base $45 version is called the Commander Edition, and comes with the game, some ringtones, a forum icon and forum avatars.

If you’re into more goodies, the $60 Archon Edition includes a collection of digital bonuses on top of the base pack – a detailed map, short story collection, wallpaper collection, original soundtrack, exclusive forum avatars and a coat of arms.

Finally, the $80 Overlord Edition includes everything above as well as a collector’s guide book and art book – both digital.
