Titanfall 2 multiplayer beta skipping PC

The upcoming Titanfall 2 multiplayer tech test won't be coming to PC.

Titanfall 2 developer Respawn has announced that the game's multiplayer technical test is close, but it will only be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In a blog post, CEO Vince Zampella explained that because of the way Titanfall 2's server back-end works, the developer only needs a single platform to stress test them.

"More platforms can be a good sanity check, but we don't need to test them all to make sure we are on a good path for launch," he explained.

That said, Zampella revealed the two main reasons why PC won't be included in the test, hardware variety and minimum spec optimisation.

"We’re still making a lot of tweaks and changes to the renderer, the game, and effects so we haven’t run the game through the hardware compatibility lab yet to detect and handle a large variety of hardware - video cards, CPUs etc," Zampella said.

"Quite frankly, we aren't ready to deal with that yet, we are still making the game better. We also haven't done enough work to fully support our 'Min Spec' on PC yet," he added, noting that the current PC build of the game isn't as easy to release as the console one, because of the "additional variables and configurations that we need to support."

"Also, because the single player story has some wonderful secrets that we really want to preserve for launch, we also have to worry about leaks. Our wonderfully curious PC players have proven in the past that they will dig out anything they can, and there's a risk that they could spoil some of our single player," he went on.

"We realise this is a big disappointment for our PC fans, but we feel this allows us to concentrate on the real purpose of the tech test and focus on the server stability and scalability. Rest assured we’re confident in our ability to deliver a great PC experience for launch."

Zampella did not, unfortunately, mention when we should expect the tech test to be go live on consoles. We do have a big livestream scheduled for tomorrow though where new multiplayer footage will be released.

There's a good chance a date for the open technical test will be dropped at this event. We'll be here to tell you all about it when it happens.
