Where’s Xur? Why, he’s in World of Warcraft: Legion

Destiny’s most mysterious vendor makes a cameo in World of Warcraft: Legion.

Every Friday when Destiny: The Taken King resets, one cry goes out over Party chat: where is Xur?

This mysterious vendor arrives on weekends to swap rare and special goods for Strange Coins, a currency outside the normal economy of Destiny, and can be found in one of a number of locations around the social spaces of Destiny. Figuring out where that rascal has got to this time and talking about whether he’s selling a decent Exotic is one of Destiny’s weekly rituals.

And now it can be World of Warcraft’s too. As spotted by Eurogamer in the video above (scrub to 4:00), there’s a new vendor coming with the Legion expansion: Xur’ios.

Found in Dalaran, Xur’ios has a fixed inventory but also one random item each day, in a nod to Xur’s rotating stock of delights. The items he sells are plays on Destiny mainstays – Ingram’s Puzzle (Engrams), Gjallar’s “Horn” (Gjallarhorn), Mote of Light and Krota’s Shield (see: Crota’s sword). You’ll need to gather Curious Coins to purchase these delights.

Although Xur’ios is a clear reference to Destiny’s Xur, World of Warcraft’s travelling vendors may have originally inspired Bungie, and Xur’ios slots neatly into World of Warcraft lore – so it’s not just a silly joke. Well, not all silly.
