See things from Geralt's perspective in The Witcher 3 first-person mod

The Witcher 3, now with two fewer people in its perspective.

Watch on YouTube

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is pretty absorbing, but for extra immersion value you can't beat first-person view.

Enter the mod community: check out the footage of a player-built first-person mode above. Naturally one of your first thoughts on seeing this is virtual reality Geralt adventures, but creator Skacikpl says that's unlikely to happen any time soon, as they don't have experience with or access to VR hardware.

The video above is just one of a number from the creator, many of which show how different The Witcher 3 feels with a change of viewpoint. The empty orphanage is actually kind of creepy, for example.

If you want to try it for yourself, the latest public build is posted regularly to the CD Projekt Red forums. At time of writing, the latest one is found by clicking the Ciri image in this post. Be warned though: we haven't tried this for ourselves and can't verify the contents, so as with all mods there's an element of risk in downloading and installing.

You'll need to use a keyboard and mouse rather than a controller for best results, and at present there's no combat support; you'll just zoom straight back out to third-person view. Nor is combat support likely; the creator says it's a "miracle" the mod works as well as it does, as they've had a heck of a time working with The Witcher 3's multiple interacting movement systems.

The landscapes in The Witcher 3 are so lovely that it's kind of tempting to combine this with a mod removing all enemies and just go for a wander, though.

Thanks, PC Gamer.
