Et tu, Brute?

Vincenzo Camuccini, "Morte di Cesare", 1798,

Heard the one about a Call of Duty game set in ancient Rome? It was never seriously considered, according to publisher Activision.

Vicarious Visions pitched Call of Duty: Roman Wars to the publisher years ago, but it didn’t get further than that. Now Activision has stated that it was never a serious contender in any sense.

“The game concept was proposed by a former employee while working at the studio, but was not seriously considered nor requested to move to prototype,” the publisher said in a statement sent to GameSpot.

The original pitch came from Vicarious Visions before Activision bought the studio and set it to work on Transformers, Tony Hawk, Spider-Man and Guitar Hero games.
