Microsoft confirms a wheelchair option and new look avatars for Xbox Live

Although not everyone is thrilled with the design.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has confirmed on Twitter that Xbox Live avatars will be getting a wheelchair option in a future update.

"We hear you," he tweeted. "This is something that we've already looked at, not far off."

Microsoft's head of Windows and Xbox program management, Mike Ybarra, followed up with a sneak peek of the wheelchairs, also showing off the overall new look of the avatars, indicating that the next update will give them a visual overhaul.

For the most part, the fans that reacted to the news were pleased, and while some criticised the new look avatars, many were disappointed with the aesthetics of the wheelchair.

"It's nice really," read one reply, "but I couldn't rock it. That's like an old person hospital chair."

"Agreed," said another. "Please don’t make us use ugly chairs."

There's a big update planned for the release of the Xbox One S, so perhaps we'll see the new avatars roll out in August.
