FIFA 17 revealed with trailer, release date, ambassadors and special editions

FIFA 17 has surfaced, inevitably, from whatever cave annual sports releases are spawned in. The football sim has been slapped with a September 29 release date, and is on its way to PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

The trailer above gives us our first look at it in action, but gameplay and features have yet to be detailed. Look out for the full reveal at E3 2016.

Although we don't have much info on the game itself, we know all about how to spend money on it. EA has opened pre-orders and detailed two special editions - the Deluxe and Super Deluxe. Here's the info:

    Standard Edition
  • Full game
  • Up to 5 FUT Draft Tokens (1 per week over 5 weeks - worth up to £10+)
  • 8-match FUT loan item of Hazard, Martial, Reus, or Rodriguez
  • Custom FUT kits created by designers or FIFA soundtrack artists
    Deluxe Edition
  • Full game
  • Up to 20 FIFA Ultimate Team Jumbo Premium Gold Packs (1 per week over 20 weeks - worth up to £40+)
  • 3-match FUT Team of the Week loan player (up to 1 player per week over 20 weeks)
  • 8-match FUT loan item of Hazard, Martial, Reus, or Rodriguez
  • Custom FUT kits created by designers or FIFA soundtrack artists
    Super Deluxe Edition
  • Full game
  • Up to 40 FIFA Ultimate Team Jumbo Premium Gold Packs (2 per week over 20 weeks - worth up to £79.99)
  • 3-match FUT Team of the Week loan player (up to 2 players per week over 20 weeks)
  • 8-match FUT loan item of Hazard, Martial, Reus, or Rodriguez
  • Custom FUT kits created by designers or FIFA soundtrack artists

If you're after the Super Deluxe Edition, you can pre-order it through the in-game menu in FIFA 16 to save 10% on the ticket price.

Pre-ordering comes with a bonus - a FIFA Ultimate Team Loan Item of one of the four FIFA ambassadors. This year's ambassadors are Eden Hazard, Anthony Martial, Marco Reus and James Rodríguez. Their names read like the cast of a four-player co-op third-person shooter, don't they? Anyway, you can read all about them on the EA Sports website if you are a big footer fan but someone don't know who these famous (?) footer men are.

FIFA 17 is a Frostbite engine game, which means EA Sports' Ignite Engine got the boot (ha ha) after just a handful of releases. It never really had time to show what it could do, and now EA says its transitioning all its sports games over to DICE's engine - just like pretty much the entirety of EA's catalogue.

Football has changed, hasn't it? For one thing it has the Xbox logo on all its trailers. Oh Microsoft, you're gonna have to work harder than that to win a decent slice of Europe's heart back from Sony.
