Microsoft wouldn’t budge on Fable IP despite multiple offers for Lionhead – report

Sources speaking with Kotaku UK said several publishers were interested in purchasing the studio. There were even letters of intent filed, some offering a sum worth “hundreds of millions.”

However, despite the interest in the studio, Microsoft refused all offers to sell the Fable IP along with the studio.

As the site points out, any company which purchased Lionhead and not the Fable IP would need to license the series from Microsoft in order to develop games in the franchise.

That could have been one of Microsoft’s stipulations to any potential deal, which caused buyers to walk away.

Microsoft announced in March 2016 it had canceled Fable Legends and would shut Lionhead Studios down after a consultation period.

The following month, sources close to the matter told MCV there were talks pertaining to continued development on Fable Legends, with Lionhead working as an independent studio.
