Five Nights at Freddy’s creator in talks for console releases

Indie horror sensation Five Nights at Freddy’s has had tremendous success on Steam and mobile, but could be coming to more platforms soon.

Replying to a question on the Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Steam Community page, creator Scott Cawthon said console ports are on the way.

“It will happen. I’m talking with a few companies who are interested in doing console remakes of the original games,” he said.

It’s not surprising that multiple companies would be interested in the project; the property is a big enough deal that Warner Bros. fast-tracked a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie.

Although a cursory look at the franchise (and its famously rapid development pace) may lead you to believe you’re in for a handful of cheap jump scares, the Five Nights at Freddy’s games have attracted a fervent fan base thanks to its deliberately obtuse ongoing narrative. Piecing together the overall story from hints, clues, in-game secrets and external puzzles became something of an obsession over the less than 12 month period from August 2014 during which FnAF 1 through FnaF 4 released.

The latest series entry is FNaF World, a spin-off RPG which released in January and was given away for free as an apology for launch issues. There’s also a novel – itself the subject of a mystery – and some suggestion the series may continue.
