Dragon Age producer drops intriguing tease

Dragon Age franchise executive producer Mark Darrah has cruelly toyed with our emotions by dropping an intriguing tease.

A tweeted video shows a book with a red cover and an image of a fire – possible stylised with an animal head – above either a tower or a chess rook. In the first proper page is marked “internal use only” and “property of BioWare/EA”, with an EA logo.

What does it mean? Nobody can say for certain, but it’s possible the book is some sort of pitch document or design reference manual for an unannounced project, which may be in pre-production or a more advanced state.

That Darrah was the one to share it immediately raises suspicions that we’re looking at something to do with Dragon Age, but it could well be something produced by one of BioWare’s other teams. We do know the Dragon Age team finished with Inquisition after the final DLC, though, and there’s been nary a word of what’s keeping it occupied nowadays.

It’s exciting to speculate on where the franchise might go; Dragon Age: Inquisition was a pretty big shake up for the series. Not only did the series jump to a new hardware generation, it went semi-open world – with mixed results, I think. The story and characters where fantastic fun but I grew thoroughly tired of all the busywork. Will BioWare take the same approach again?
