Mirror’s Edge Catalyst locks abilities behind XP upgrades

As explained by Eurogamer, unlike the original game, many of Faith's actions can only accessed through a trait tree once the player earn enough XP.

Players will earn XP for every action completed. This includes finding Gridleaks and completing side missions. When the players levels up they will earn an upgrade point. These points are spend in one of the three trait trees: combat, gear and movement.

Combat will provide various boosts when dealing with certain foes, while gear upgrades provide access to the magline, as one example. Movement upgrades unlock advanced parkour tricks such as "quick turns, roll landings and tucking your feet up."

Eurogamer said the XP system didn't take away from the gameplay experience, but press outlets were playing build with 11 of 19 upgrades unlocked from the start. Within three hours, leveling up happened rather quickly.

This will be the same build closed beta participants will play next weekend.

Arekkz got his hands on the game during the press event, and provided his thoughts it yesterday. You should give the video a watch.
