Xbox One: Background Music, Cortana, store convergence coming this summer

With the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft will bring more gaming features across both the operating system and Xbox One.

Cortana

Some of the new features to expect this summer were announced today during Microsoft Build 2016.

One of the most requested features for Xbox One, Background Music, will be part of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and will allow users to listen to music from Xbox One apps in the background without being in Snap mode.

Cortana will also arrive with the summer update. She will get "smarter over time" and eventually become "your personal gaming assistant" by he;ping users find new games, challenges and offer tips and tricks. More details on Cortana functionality will be announced at a later date.

Finally, the update will also converge the Xbox and Windows Store. This will allow the marketplace to work across all devices in the ecosystem. This will allow support for bundles, season passes, pre-orders and more.

A release date for the Windows 10 Anniversary update hasn't been narrowed down. Since the OS was released July 29, 2015, we expect the update to arrive sometime during July 2016.
