This developer diary made me really excited for Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal has a lot going for it, but it's this fascinating behind the scenes look at the recreation of prehistoric cultures that drew me in.

Far Cry Primal looks pretty rad; animal taming and survival are hot trends at the moment, and for good reason.

But what really gets me personally is how much effort Ubisoft has put into creating a simulacrum of the very ancient world. In this developer diary video, we get to hear from ancient language experts and actors as well as the developer diary, and see some of the work that went into the three main tribes.

This pushes a lot of my buttons as a language geek, and feeds my fascination with early human society. I'm way more interested in Far Cry Primal than I was yesterday; I love the sandboxy combat formula as seen in Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4, but it's always the characters and situations that really get me - and this one looks set to have that in spades.

Far Cry Primal launches next week for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
