Activision plans to release a new Ghostbusters game to coincide with the launch of the new film,

This is according to a Retail Merchandiser which recently spoke with Sony Pictures Consumer Products SVP Mark Caplan.

According to the report, picked up by IGN, Activision is developing a “full-fledged” Ghostbusters for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game is separate from Warner’s LEGO Dimensions toys-to-life title, obviously, but this was pointed out in the article for clarity so we’re doing the same.

Also noted in the article, was the positive reaction to the 2009 Terminal Reality-developed Ghostbusters: The Video Game

“It was a great experience for us,” said Caplan. “It showed there was a tremendous fan base already built in. The success of the video game and Matty Collector toy line led to a revival in Ghostbusters products.

Activision hasn’t announced it’s working on a Ghostbusters title, but the firm was also mum for ages regarding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, information on which leaked like a rusty galvanized water main.

By all accounts, it seems we can expect the title to release sometime around July 15 when the film hits theaters. It’s not known at present whether the all-female cast from the film will appear in the game, or if they will lend their voices to it.

The 2009 game featured voice work from the original quartet Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson.
