The Division: you can no longer pre-order from PSN then cancel to get a beta code

You can’t trick the PlayStation Store into giving you beta codes for The Division anymore.

Over the last couple of days, it was discovered that pre-ordering The Division from the UK PlayStation Store – among other regions – doesn’t charge your credit card on the spot.

Since all pre-orders come with guaranteed beta access, this was great news to anyone looking to grab a beta key without actually spending money on a pre-order, because they could always cancel afterwards.

It seems, however, this method is no longer a valid way to get a beta key. Ubisoft has issued a statement to say the beta has already “reached capacity” of players needed for testing.

“We are seeing an unprecedented level of interest in The Division closed beta and we want to warmly thank our fans for their enthusiasm and passion,” reads the statement.

“We’ve already reached the capacity of players needed to test the game and online infrastructure during the beta and to prepare for the launch of the game (on PS4) on March 8.

“As a result, at this time we’re closing access to the closed beta through the PSN pre-order system.”

The publisher published a list of affected countries, which include UK, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, United Arab Emirates, and others.

The Division beta starts on PC and PlayStation 4 this afternoon.
