Folks are pre-ordering The Division for a beta key then cancelling the transaction

Entry to the closed beta for The Division is guaranteed if you have pre-ordered the game. Many PS4 players are reportedly getting said keys by pre-ordering and then cancelling the transaction.

This is nothing new. Many people did the same for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 beta and many, many games before it. And will in the future. Such is the way of things.

Most tend to pre-order through Amazon, as the site doesn't charge customers up front until close to shipping - if not the exact ship date.

Same goes for the PlayStation Store as reported by Eurogamer who tried it themselves.

Just log into your PS4 online, go to the PS Store, find The Division and hit the "pay now" button. You'll obviously need a credit card or money in your PlayStation Wallet.

Search for The Division again, and the beta will be listed. Download the beta client. Once downloaded, cancel your pre-order. No need to enter a key, as it's apparently applied automatically.

Now, PS4 players will be able to try out The Division beta once it kicks off on Friday without pre-ordering it. If they like it, then they can buy it. You know, sort of like a demo.

This will likely work with the PC version as well - if you pre-order from a retailer like Amazon which won't charge right away.

A bit shady honestly, but it works. And again, this nothing new to many, but some may have never heard about this sort of thing.

The Division will be released on March 8.

The beta kicks off on Xbox One January 28 and on PC, PS4 January 29. It ends for all platforms on January 31.
